It’s truly a sad day today. I was notified by one of the newest readers of my book that the site that hosted the FREE game art I use as the basis of the books game has gone DOWN…

Some of the content has started to come back (thanks to Matthew for pointing that out) at the bottom of the site page.  Resources have been moved over to some Azure hosting pages to keep them alive.

WootStudio who were part of MS Dev in Canada has closed it’s site down, bringing an end to many of their creations, including:

• The Tower Game Starter kit (Tutorials, Art and assets for creating a simple TD game)
• The Windows 8 Platformer starter kit Art and assets for 2D platformers
  This spurred many devs (including me) to create tutorials from these assets like 
  • The Unity porting kit and guides

  They were trully an astounding force for getting things in to beginners hands and giving them a leg up.

Phew, it has been a torturous time since my book was released back in August, my first experience releasing my work in printed / ebook form through a publisher only to find that lots of changes made it in to the book on release. Needless to say I was shocked and have been working hard with the publisher to fix what had been broken.

Knowledge is power and with what Syncfusionare doing to educate the masses , then they must be very powerful indeed. Training and educating developers far and wide, growing their own developer army. Or they could just be very nice people

It’s been a fun ride over the past year, I’ve written a Unity book and I’ve attended over 4 Unity porting events for Microsoft and Nokia, it’s fair to say Unity and I have been on good terms this year :D.

It’s finally here, my first title has now been published on Packt’s publishing site and all of the leading online bookstores (probably a few less reputable as well ??). In the run up to the launch of my first published title (a book this time) I’m going to be doing some short snippets from some of the many exciting things you will learn within its pages.

Unity is by far outstripping all the competition with its multi-platform game framework, especially with their recent win in the Develop awards for best game engine (well done team). So with the influx of new books to aid new developers, things are only going to keep moving and fast.

Time for another vent after a very eventful week for me. I finally managed to get the last of the drafts in for my upcoming book, I managed to get some big changes accepted in to the Monogame project and finished the current round of the Microsoft/Nokia Unity porting day events (www.unityportinguk.com)

Times are changing and now that the latest milestone release of MonoGame (V3.2) is out there has been a lot of taking stock actions on the GitHub Site.

Unity has a very big focus at the moment (when it’s not building awesome tools) to help better educate its adopters and raise the bar on the quality of its samples.
